Paul’s assessment showed that his short term memory, a critical skill for learning to read, was functioning in the 17th percentile. His poor short term memory also lead to frequent communication problems at home. In addition, his vocabulary comprehension was two years behind which caused both classroom and social problems. Paul was quite gifted in mathematics and creativity which scored in the 98th percentile. His high creativity however often made it difficult to focus for long periods of time. Finally, his organizational skills were functioning at a Kindergarten level.
After his assessment Breakthroughs in Learning created an Individualized Brain Development Program for Paul to specifically target and develop the skills that were causing him to struggle at home, academically and socially. He attended weekly therapy sessions and elected to borrow some of our fun educational games to work on his skills at home as well.
Paul made dramatic progress in his reading, improving 3.5 years in 20 months and is now on grade level. Both his classroom and Special Educational teachers said they had never seen a child progress so much in such a short period of time. He no longer requires a teacher’s aide to repeat the teacher’s instructions, completes his homework independently and is able to function well socially. His Mother said “When you see that your child can be normal like everybody else, that’s success”
"Kaleigh has not only smiled everyday, but has laughed and smiled every hour of every day. This is my daughter who wrote stories about suicide a year ago."
Kaleigh was a bright 11 year old girl who was experiencing considerable stress at home and at school. She had trouble remembering things, felt constant pressure and struggled in math. She had great difficulty using words to express herself to the point of not asking questions when she needed to and actively avoiding social situations. Her parents began to worry that if she was struggling this much already, university wasn't going to be an option.
“When you see that your child can be normal like everybody else, that’s success.”
Paul was in Grade 3 when he was assessed at Breakthroughs. He was two grades behind in reading and received frequent help from the special education teacher.
The classroom teacher told Paul's parents that he was lazy and just not trying. Paul was bullied and had a hard time making friends. A Psychological Assessment showed he was advanced in mathematics but several years behind in other areas.
Aaron's assessment showed that he had a number of skills functioning in the disabled range including organizational skills, vocabulary comprehension, visual memory, listening comprehension, processing speed and verbal skills. He had several areas of strength that had helped him to hide these areas of weakness from many people in his life.

She had been passed over for several promotions and was concerned she didn’t have the skill to excel in her current position. She was considering returning to school but didn’t know if that was her best option. She struggled to process and apply information and was frustrated that although she knew she had many gifted skills, some things seemed far more difficult than they should have been.
