Jessie-Lee's assessment showed that the overall average of her skills was in the 96th percentile. As a highly gifted individual areas of weakness were magnified by the gap between them and the rest of her gifted skills. Jessie-Lee's ability to apply information was functioning in the 23rd percentile. This dramatically limited her ability to use many of her gifted skills. Other areas of weakness included, coping skills, organizational skills, processing speed and a memory skill critical for leadership rolls.
After her assessment Breakthroughs in Learning created an Individualised Brain Development Program for Jessie-Lee to specifically target and develop the skills that were causing her frustration at home and at work. She attended weekly therapy sessions and used our resources to work on her skills at home as well.
Jessie-Lee’s stress has greatly reduced as her skills have developed. She is able to process and apply information quickly and effectively. Her increased coping and organization skills, combined with her improved memory have created new opportunities for her personally and professionally. She is now the mother of 4 children and the Senior IT Project Manager at an international tech company.
"Kaleigh has not only smiled everyday, but has laughed and smiled every hour of every day. This is my daughter who wrote stories about suicide a year ago."
Kaleigh was a bright 11 year old girl who was experiencing considerable stress at home and at school. She had trouble remembering things, felt constant pressure and struggled in math. She had great difficulty using words to express herself to the point of not asking questions when she needed to and actively avoiding social situations. Her parents began to worry that if she was struggling this much already, university wasn't going to be an option.
“When you see that your child can be normal like everybody else, that’s success.”
Paul was in Grade 3 when he was assessed at Breakthroughs. He was two grades behind in reading and received frequent help from the special education teacher.
The classroom teacher told Paul's parents that he was lazy and just not trying. Paul was bullied and had a hard time making friends. A Psychological Assessment showed he was advanced in mathematics but several years behind in other areas.
Aaron's assessment showed that he had a number of skills functioning in the disabled range including organizational skills, vocabulary comprehension, visual memory, listening comprehension, processing speed and verbal skills. He had several areas of strength that had helped him to hide these areas of weakness from many people in his life.
